David Clayton Thomas and Blood, Sweat and Tears in a beautifully-arranged version of Billie Holliday's "God Bless the Child." Filling with emotion, dramatic musical pauses, controlled dynamics, powerful drumrolls, horn swell and shakes, and a go-to-church-Hammond organ with a Leslie Speaker system. Beautifully dischordant. Polytonality extraordinaire. An amazing arrangement and performance -- my favorite of theirs. Truly showcases some wonderful jazz musicianship. Done to perfection. Flawless.
Listen to the message in "God Bless The Child" -- at the end, the hair will stand up on your neck when a sweet country harmonica joins David on the last verse.
The song is profound, filled with truth learned of great suffering.
