Brian Hyland - Sealed With a Kiss

It's almost summer. Summer days used to be endless. This classic is reminiscent of the Everly Brothers' style, but the voices and harmony are sweeter and more lyrical. The somber harmonica riffs interdispersed throughout the song are a beautiful counterpoint melody to Brian's voice. This song felt, and still feels sacred. I am also a great fan of songs (let's say that this one is F# Minor) which start with a Major 4th (B) and drifts into a Minor 4th (B Minor) --it gives them an added element of delicacy and sincerity.

The half-step modulation for the last version is classic musical drama, and very effective after an instrumental verse is played. Eat your heart out Barry Manilow -- you overused it, buddy.

Enjoy this song from my childhood, by either clicking on the hyperlink or the video player.
