My favorite of their songs, and the first major record release by this fabulous 70's group. Rich harmony. Full symphonic (not synthetic) orchestra -- even oboe! Also, a bit of electric sitar (pioneered by Vinnie Bell, and used in so many Spinners and Stylistics songs, many of which were written by Gamble and Huff).
For me...driver's license, twelfth grade, working up my courage to ask some compassionate young lady for a date. For a short period, I was a gentleman...then, times changed, music changed, social mores changed and being a gentleman was the last thing that the eligible female population would admit to liking. I became extinct in a social version of "Global Cooling." Everybody became "cool." And the girls acted as if they had an insatiable appetite for cruel, distant and mysterious men. I was still a boy.
Tough guys (yesterday's term for "bad boys") took all of my prospects away. Gosh.
