I was a kid in elementary school when I first this song. Lou Christie's incredible on-and-off falsetto took me for a joyous ride. Brilliantly written, very complex, dramatic changes in dynamics and a full orchestra (deluxe with chick singers) laying out this politically-incorrect, primitive, sexist song of wild passion. A+ all around: writing (both music and hysterical lyrics), arranging, orchestration, and performance. Lou Christie was the "other" Jersey Boy of his day. Listen for the modulations, intense thundering drum rolls, electric bass rifts, and brass (saxophones, bones, trumpets...mmmmmm!) enough to set the hairs on the back of your neck tingling.
Rich, full orchestration. I dedicate this song to my daughter, Leslie who quickly adopted it as her anthem after she'd heard it played once or twice in my car (a super oldies tape), but when she had just graduated (summa cum laude) in potty training. She would sing this song over and over throughout the day. "Lightning Strikes". Just click to play.
As an added bonus, dedicated to my younger sister who was a rock and roller before I even realized that I was a nerd, I'm also giving you a bonus extra -- my favorite Lou Christie RadioDAZZ classic, "I'm Gonna Make You Mine." Tasty and terrific, with surround sound and positive energy enough to light up Metropolis. Great keyboards, great chorus. What a rush to the soul.
Cherish every sacred second of these songs, and make a fool of yourself if you dare! Sing out loud. You might just start something...
