"Until your heart's been broken, you can never know just how much love costs." - DAZZ |
The classic song,"Beggin," originally performed in the 1960's by Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons and more recently revived by the ethnically anomalous group Madcon has long been a favorite of mine.
It cries with desperation, both in terms of its lyrics and in terms of its intense chord progression (transposed from the original D Minor for my voice, it's A Minor, F Major B Minor 7th flat 5th, E7th) and classically derived bass line (A, C, B, D - A, C, B, E alternating). It is a powerful song. It needs a RadioDAZZ revival.
When I went shopping on YouTube to get both versions, I'll confess that the original (with a better, cleaner, more native arrangement) had less than 500,000 views, and that the Madcon version, with a much more exciting video, but slightly over-produced, had a tremendous number of viewings. My conclusions are that 1) the song was far ahead of its time, and underplayed, and 2) YouTube is more about video than about music, per se.
Both versions are wonderful. I'll present Madcon's first, and I'll follow it with my preferred version by Frankie Valli. Click and enjoy each.
