Steven Tyler - Hardcore Rocker - AEROSMITH.

Steve Tyler is a hardcore rocker (in terms of his music of the 1980s with Aerosmith) and in terms of his legendary lifestyle. But three things set him apart from all of the other head-banging, glass-busting, "darkside" artists and performers of that era and genre:

1) His enormous catalog of well-written, seriously-arranged music;

2) His variety -- his vast range of musical and vocal styles; each and all done with complete dedication, full focus and a sense of the performer singing to the heavens instead of the throngs;

3) His raw, yet somehow always appropriate voice for whatever material he is performing -- he connects to this music...the meaning of the words, the ambient emotionality of the subject matter, and the rendering of a performance and recording which is uniquely laced with his styling, yet enhanced by it instead of conceitedly obsessed by it. His voice is an instrument of pure expression. We are almost like musical voyeurs listening to him sing directly from his lonely soul to somebody far off in the distance, unseen.

He puts everything into every song as if it were his only one. That is, Dazzolites and Dazzolettes, total immersion, total surrender and total commitment. Ego rides far in the back seat with Tyler. I have selected for you, my faithful listeners, three wonderful songs which demonstrate his artistry, versatility and magic. This having been said, I cannot find it in my heart to forgive him for the latest blitz of Burger King commercials ["Have you tasted the sauce?"]

Click. Enjoy. Come back. Click on another selection. Come back... see the pattern?

JANIE'S GOT A GUN - My Favorite [amazing sound effects, instrumentation, lyrics, harmonies, whisperings, spooky stuff, dynamics... and most of all ---a horrifying underlying theme of child-abuse].
