The Perry Mason Theme: Gives You Chills...The DAZZ Boomer Box

Share this ARTICLE with your colleagues on LinkedIn .

Fred Steiner's Park Avenue Beat -- is the scintillating theme song from the Perry Mason television series. This theme still sends chills down my spine and gives me gooseflesh. It is mysterious, exciting, eerily discordant, and unforgettable.

Fred Steiner wrote the original classic theme song, but when the series was revived, it was co-opted and refreshed by composer/arranger Dick DeBenedictis. But the Steiner original is still the ultimate -- and that's the arrangement you'll hear.

Here's a bit more about Richard Dick DeBenedictis:

Richard Dick DeBenedictis (born 1937) is an American composer noted for composing music for television shows including Perry Mason and its movies from 1985 until 1993, Police Story, Columbo, The Rockford Files, Hawaii Five-O, and Dean Hargrove's Matlock, and its spin offs Jake and the Fatman, and Diagnosis: Murder. DeBenedictis has been nominated nine times for an Emmy Award, most recently in 1996, for composing, but has never won. He is the father of musician Dean DeBenedictis.

Click and be entranced by the original -- from my childhood:

As a special treat, I'd like to feature an interview with Fred Steiner:

I'm actually thinking of calling the occasional posts of this sort "The DAZZ Boomer Box" Well -- what do you think? Am I on to something?
