Chris Rea - Fool If You Think It's Over

Chris Rea made several recordings of this beautiful song about the loss of innocence and growing up. His voice is ragged and craggy, yet so profoundly sensitive -- as if he's truly lived it. "Fool If You Think It's Over." This song touched my heart and had me frenetically turning the radio station dial in my car just so I could find another station that might feature the song in its rotation. It is bittersweet - like listening to the words of an older brother comforting you after your first bout with disillusionment in romance.

The words are profound...especially the line, "Newborn eyes always cry with pain/Their first look at the morning sun." It is wisdom, tucked into a hypnotic, slightly repetitious song.

I have a few versions for you to savor. Compare them and see which you prefer. The first one has an embedded video player. For the others, just click on the hyperlinks and be transported to Chris' other recordings of the same song. Each has its own special magic, its own precious flaws, and its own special reason for being.
