Edwyn Collins - A Girl Like You

I can explain.

I swear.

The above photograph is a reconstruction of me created by Mr. Phil Parker with the assistance of Photoshop. I had nothing to do with it. It looks a bit like something from the Ian Fleming (the chap who created Jame's Bond's 007 character in his series of books, the first of which was "In Her Majesty's Secret Service") school of photography. Sexist. Obvious. Exaggerated. Profane. Phil is quite an amazing guy -- he truly captured my essence in his doctoring of this photo. Nice job, Phil.

Edwyn Collins had a pulsating, tribal, hypnotic hit with the single "A Girl Like You." He has a powerfully intense voice (enhanced with a slightly exaggerated reverb and echo), a 70's sound, guitar distortion (of the "Incense and Peppermints" variety) and builds up incredible intensity. The song is masterfully sung, and masterfully produced. Even though the video captures slices from one of the greatly-acclaimed (by nobody) "Charlie's Angels" movies, it is worth watching -- it "works" with the throb of the music. The fast-action photo collage is wonderfully effective. By the way, the song is in C Minor, with a simple, pumping bass line.
