Laugh all you want. When the Gallery came out with song in 1972, everybody talked about how "sissy" it was...yet everyone was humming it. I even suspect that when any one of us didn't have a carful of friends and this song popped up on the Top 40 radio, we would toss our heads back and sing along
Very upbeat, a wonderful year in my otherwise tormented life. Opening riff: E, D, E, D - Into the vocal in A. Very corny with bells (gockenspiegel? Ja?) rigning merrily in the background, simple instrumentation, and a cheesy but welcome pseudo-Hawaiian pedal steel guitar break in the the middle. Classic repetition and fade out.
If you're of a certain age, you no longer have to be ashamed of liking it. Unlike the economic reports and scandals in the Vatican, it will make you smile.
