I liked them from the start. I heard them while I tooled about in my 1968 Cougar. Everyone knew the words. Everyone sang along. The blips in the time signature didn't make us miss a beat on the dance floor. Beautiful, lush changes. A wonderful intro with a surprisingly circuitous suspenseful modulation that finds its way to the perfect key for the vocal.
Full orchestration. Real musicians. Real scoring. True magic. Contemporary soul (back then), but it was profoundly serious enough to make you want to either cry or pray.
Enjoy every secon. Play it more than once. It's too short...but then, it couldn't be long enough.
