I can't help it. He was one of my favorite writers, arrangers and performers. He was "fly" before it was "fly" to be "fly". He coverered the spectrum from Motown to Disco. There could only be one Curtis Mayfield.

The first song "Superfly," with its signature bassline, super drum riffs and wah-wah pedal mosquito guitar was the ultimate.

Some years before, he came out with "Move On Up" -- a song so filled with sensitivity, sarcastic understatement, raw power and unadulterated funk that it made me shiver. It was the kind of song that could turn a whitebread pacifist into a red-eyed activist.

Hush now, child, and click on the first link..., then come right back, Y'all, and click on the second link. Do it. Let Curtis commandeer your heart with his soul.
