Shotgun - "Funk" Defined. Dazzology. - Jr. Walker

Around 1966, Jr. Walker And The All Stars kicked out one of the funkiest brief pieces of funk ever to come out of the factory. "Shotgun." With its irrepressible beat, signature thundershock drumrolls, cool organ response chords, and ...the unforgettable A7 strum riff on the reverb-enhanced guitar... It's the classic garage or ghetto A7, with the G (on the B string) and the A (on the E string) clashing together to produce that pure, raw sound. Barre chords...portable, slid-able, -- Remember that unmistakable sound at the beginning of Sam The Sham's "Wooly Bully"?  Oh yes you do.

The song is a slow rock, train-steady, get-out-and-dance-on-the-floor classic. Do the Jerk, the Swim, the Mashed potato -- even the Monkey or the Frug (pronounced "froog").

Click to hear the starter's pistol, and then we're grinding out pure, unadulterated soul. Jr. Walker walked the line between Motown and Funk, but if you were to ask DAZZ, he'd say that Junior was way far over on the funky side. I dare you to listen only once....
