Third World - Awesome Reggae Beats

Share this ARTICLE with your colleagues on LinkedIn .

Third World is truly the Reggae Ambassador to mainstream dance and popular music in the United States, cutting across all racial, ethnic and religious barriers to access fans of Bob Marley, Eddy Grant, Johnny Nash (who actually brought reggae to the US in the early 1960's with his song "Hold Me Tight," a seeming lifetime before "I can See Clearly Now" or Paul Simon's subtly-styled "Mother And Child Reunion" which featured reggae-influenced sounds, but did not slam out the harder-core, obvious washing machine magic rhythm of Jimmy Cliff , Peter Tosh, or Bob Marley).

The magic of Third World is that they were written for, produced and arranged by the Gamble and Huff crew who did so much to post giant popular radio hits for such soulful yet mainstream-appealing groups as The Spinners and The Stylistics.

Third World was, admittedly, more commercial than its Rastafarian-immersed island-originated counterparts, but they had fabulously catchy refrains, full-chord harmony, a driving right-foot-bass-pedal-to-the-floor pumping beat, and a sound that was richer, wider and more generally appealing than some of the less Philadelphia-processed reggae which originated in the islands. But they were, soulful, funky, upbeat and so melodic and harmonic.

The magic of the wondrous group is that they had everybody (across all the boards and barrier that tend to divide us all) singing along, dancing ["Dancing On The Floor" - great song!] and feeling.

Please listen to the two songs I've selected for you to enjoy and get a fabulous dose of Jah Love, a slightly elevated heartbeat, and some gooseflesh -- that last one (gooseflesh) is my winner gauge.

If I hear something on the radio and I get that cold rush of gooseflesh, with the hair on the back of my neck standing up, I know that I am musically hooked. Click on these beauties - If you are not a reggae fan, expect to be converted BIG TIME.

Remember that RadioDAZZ features only the most magical music. Tell a friend. Tell a bunch of friends. Forward. Retweet. Lather Rinse. Repeat! Thanks, DC
