Killer DAZZ: "If You Think You're Lonely Now..."

Share this ARTICLE with your colleagues on LinkedIn .

The song is a killer! I first heard this Bobby Womack super single late one night while driving home from a meeting. It was on one of those late night "baby-makin'-music" stations -- you know, you know ... the ones where they have a guy with an incredibly rich, deep voice (remember Vaughn Harper?), or where they have a woman with a sweet and sultry tone taking calls from lonely listeners to take requests for dedications, each with its own special story. In my car, it felt intimate.

The caller was a young woman who had just been pitched to the curb by her womanizing, self-centered boyfriend: a fellow (dig this) who used to tell her how bad her body looked compared with other womens'... a fellow who would complain that SHE wasn't generating enough money to help him live his gigolo lifestyle... lovestruck young lady even took him back after he'd admitted to sleeping with her "best friend". The girl was dried out from all of the crying a person ought to have to stand, after the jerk had dumped her for a slightly older woman who was happy to pay him well and support him for being an ornament in front of her idle rich friends.

It was a role reversal, but then Bobby Womack came on, (with a riff reminiscent of the Stylistics' "You Are Everything And Everything Is You," but artfully and fabulously repeated thematically) with his soliloquy, and his half-talking, half soul-singing voice and kicked me right in the chest.

I remember thinking about the woman I've hurt, and was so moved by the [damn] song that I wanted to call each and all of them and apologize and ask for forgiveness.

I think that I should just let you click and enjoy the music -- judge for yourself.

IF YOU THINK YOU'RE LONELY NOW - Bobby Womack

I actually made a few of those calls. It's hard to reconnect with someone you've wronged after 20 years or more. Some had moved on. Some had said something like "think nothing of it." One just asked if I had found someone to make me happy -- she actually said that I deserved that happiness. When I hung up the telephone, your Uncle DAZZ couldn't stop the flow of tears. I was being baptized in my own lamentation. Nothing like goodness in someone whom you've hurt to make you take a second look at yourself and be sick at what you see.

For the record (no pun there), Uncle Dazz is still hoping for some kind of redemption. Maybe that's why I write The RadioDAZZ Blog.

By the way, don't forget to end every conversation by saying "I love you" if you feel it. They say that actions speak louder than words, but those words might be the very last someone may hear from you. Don't ever, ever, leave those words unsaid; if you do, someone (you or someone else) are going to live a lifetime of regret. (0)

Your Uncle DAZZ knows all too well. Thank you for cruisin' with me, for reading my stories, listening to my favorite music, and for sharing my thoughts and yours with your connections and real friends through your social media and Re-Tweeting. RT's what I like to see. I love you.
