A wonderful live performance by Stephen Bishop, with a full, rich accompaniment. The song's theme is the immalleable constant of a fool's romance: "Love Don't Love Nobody." It's simple, graceful with a tropical feel, enhanced by some wonderful pedal steel guitar work that was never truly enunciated on the Top 40's single.

Stephen Bishop notably performed the song "Something's Telling Me It Might Be You," from [I believe] the old Dustin Hoffman movie classic "Tootsie," which came out long before Mrs. Doubtfire (featuring Robin Williams) was in utero. Listen to that song - it's on the same YouTube page from which I culled this "in concert" treasure.

Some of us don't know that we have hearts until we feel them breaking. Listen loudly, lazily and get lost in every disillusioned lover's tropical island -- this one is miles from Margaritaville (Jimmy Buffet's wonderfully popular song), but it's far less tongue-in-cheek and much more lump in throat. David Ruffin (R.I.P.) - "Gonna Walk Away From Love (Before Love Breaks My Heart)." A beautiful love song from 1975. I've heard it said that "love don't love nobody."

We crave it, we run and drive to the strangest and most unlikely places in desperate hopes of finding it -- yet we live in fear of its loss --- the very thought of our dependence upon it, of being cut off from our supplier, often makes us run in the opposite direction, or to sabotage something otherwise beautiful.

David' s rusty, soulful falsetto is intensely wonderful. The gentle disco bass pump (and the sweet ringing of the chimes) gives this song an almost Caribbean lilt.

Enjoy this classic from the late David Ruffin, a man who lived a troubled life battling his personal demons; but a man who left behind a legacy of some poignantly Human and moving music.
