1910 Fruitgum Company - 'Simple Simon Says'

Share this ARTICLE with your colleagues on LinkedIn .

This is so cute and so innocent. Bubblegum music, as it was termed in the late 1660's, was always the object of ridicule or the butt of somebody's joke about "over-commercialized silly music."

"Simple Simon Says" is a perfectly preserved specimen of this musical epoch. In fact, I played and sang it at Stacy Lebenger's Bat Mitzvah with one of my very first "basement-rehearsed" rock bands. As I recall, everybody loved it. As they said at the Loretto Yacht Club (a short-lived social group within a social group), "Ain't no shame in loving what you love." This does not apply to liver.

Enjoy this Bubblegum treasure, and while you listen and watch, follow the directions with precision and enthusiasm. Click ahoy to enjoy:

What's that? You'd like an added Adams' Clove Gum (or Beeman's or Blackjack or Big Red or Juicy Fruit) bonus extra? Did I hear the woman in the back request "1-2-3 Red Light?"

DAZZ Delivers! I dedicate this song to my younger sister Diane, who used to walk around the house in Bellmore (we were Bellmorons) singing this song with great emotional conviction. She was very cute.

Now be certain to make an appointment with your dentist (hopefully it's Barry Steinberg) for an exam. Sweet? Oh yes.

Douglas E. Castle| Musical Medicine.

Share this ARTICLE with your colleagues on LinkedIn .

I write RadioDAZZ because I want to share my pure, unconditional, unfettered love of music (many types) with the world. By the time I was in sixth grade, I knew that I was born to be a musician and performer. By the time I turned 32, I realized that I would probably never make music my career.

As a reasonably intelligent but depression-prone person, I have noticed (after years and years of searching for true happiness and contentedness) that the only distraction that truly works is music. Music is medicine. I offer it for free.

Since I so seldom perform music, I serve at least a part of my destiny's directives by bringing music, as a messenger to as many people as I am able. And while my career resume does not reflect my years of playing, teaching and performing music, the very least I can do is to share my zeal for it with everyone. We need music. It is a force which brings people together (be it in church or around the campfire), and touches each of us personally. It can make us laugh at joy-filled memories, or cry at the raw cut of emotion -- but it always restores our true, perfect Humanity to us. Even if only for a short while.

I ask you to do this for our endangered species:

1) Share this blog with everyone who needs what it offers;

2) Offer your suggestions for songs for me to play on RadioDAZZ by going to the CONTACT Section of this blog (or even by leaving a COMMENT below any blog post);

3) Please follow me on Twitter - and I'll follow you back, too:

4) Please tweet and retweet (RT) as many of my blogs as possible if you enjoy a particular post or song;

5) Dedicate some time each and every single day (or at least six days weekly) to enjoying music without distraction.

Thank you for reading, listening, helping me to promote, tweeting, re-tweeting, re-posting your favorites, paying the good feelings forward and for letting me myself.

With respect (everyone desires it) and with love (we need it, and can never get quite enough),

DAZZ (masquerading as Douglas E. Castle)
