Yep. Everyone's heard of the Spinners -- a fabulous sound out of the laboratories of Gamble and Huff. A middle to late 1970's Motown meets soul meets a bit of tasty disco, these guys had the best composing, arranging and production of any of their contemporaries. They got me hooked with "It's A Shame" and "I'll Be Around," a song with only two chords but with dynamics and crescendos to keep your attention. Like the Stylistics, Donna Summer, Al Green, The Intruders ("I'll Always Love My Mama") and so many other funksters who infiltrated the disco world and kept it soulful and real for a good while, they were just amazing. They even had beautiful choreography. They were the ultimate class (and classic) act.

They sang of ghetto life, of the love of a good mother (they sang "Sadie" at the Westbury Theater In The Round, and you couldn't find a dry eye anywhere). The lyrics were soulful, but clear and sincere. They took you to church. They were so holy with harmony that they could bring you to your knees.

The two great songs which follow, are the most beautiful and delicate by far. The first speaks about the fear of letting the one you love go free. The second has a story to it -- listen very closely, and the tears will rain down. It's not about a man and his woman. It's about a father who loses his precious daughter. It is an incredibly sad song, with an electric sitar instrumental that is so simple, yet so emotionally profound that you won't be able to hear anything else in your world. Uncle DAZZ knows some mighty, mighty secrets.

Your Uncle DAZZ loves you. He knows what it's like to have to be two people -- the sensitive one, and the tough, defensive one. I feel for you. You know I do. It's okay to yell, or to cry. Anything's better than no sound at all. It's only silent like that when you've lost everything.

The lyrics keep haunting me. The tune Keeps haunting me. Catchy, contagious, memorable. Didn't even remember the rest of the song or the group who recorded it. "Our House/ In the middle of our street..." I've heard those words referenced in all kinds of places by all kinds of people -- most recently on an episode of 'Psych' on TV. I knew that Uncle Dazz, had to dig into the YouTube archives to find this song. I seemed to remember an English accent to the lyrics too... Hold on you Dazzophiles who dig The Radio DAZZ Blog and The Dazz Man. I won't let you down. My research begins now. Sadly, I'm only a meme to you...

Got it! It was performed by Madness, a one-hit wonder.

I've found it, and on YouTube, it received more than 4 million views.

They had other songs, apparently (most stagnated in the U.K.), but these were so far outranked and overshadowed by "Our House.. as to be barely noticeable."

BIG BANG THEORY! - Barenaked Ladies - RadioDAZZ Has The Answers!

Barenaked Ladies has been writing and performing a bizarre blend of cerebrotonic, clever, sardonic witty lyrics (rapidly paced and interlaced with 'puns within puns') with wonderfully melodic and memorable tunes during the past 18 years or so.

Sometimes the songs are so impacted with obscurant, clever , wacky lyrics that you have to listen to them several times in order to catch all of the brilliance and intellectual handiwork that is loaded into every verse.

The two biggest publicly-celebrated songs from this wonderfully musical group of comedians and philosophers are probably "If I Had A Million Dollars" [pass out those lyric sheets, Missy -- all the family wants to sing along], and, more recently, the theme song from The Big Bang Theory, a very funny sitcom which I enjoy when I can't find NCIS, CSI or Person Of Interest on television and I'm not tired enough to just go to bed. In fact, the RadioDAZZ guy (me, Douglas E. Castle, a regular working stiff, but don't tell anyone) has caught some of his greatest musical inspirations in those restless moments.
