This is possibly Edgar Winter's best Top 40 hit. "Come On And Take A Free Ride" features some bouncing electric bass, crescendo synth riffs, and a great rock and roll old school guitar riff. When I first heard this (the song is in A Major), I tore up my finger callouses playing those terrific guitar licks to the point of distraction.

The only possible competitor for first position from Edgar was "Rock And Roll Hoochie Koo," which he performed with Rick Derringer and brother Johnny Winter [As The White Trash Band]. And of course, the most famous instrumental, across all the popular music sectors was "Frankenstein," which contains two themes that are 100% Edgar Winter.

His first major market release album, "Entrance," was a word of incredible detail and artistry. The music and lyrics, combined with Winter's virtuosity on sax, keyboards, synth drums (the technology was rather clunky at the time, but the effect was still magnificent) and guitar playing -- almost completely done in multi-track overdubs -- made this a classic... almost a disjointed, mood-morphing rock opera which pulled you into each of his various moods and meditations in a way that is so incredibly difficult to do.

He is dedicated, underrated now, at last, celebrated.

Friends and followers of The RadioDAZZ Blog know (for real, for real) that I call them as I see them. The first song is the hook -- "Free Ride" -- but once you've been hooked, you'll take the rest of the journey with DAZZ.

Just click on each link (or video player), enjoy being awe-struck, hit the "BACK" button, say a quick "hello," and go on to the next.

*Free Ride Lyrics (because The RadioDAZZ Blog is customer-centric):

The mountain is high, the valley is low, and you're confused 'bout which way to go, So I flew in to give you a hand, and lead you into, the promised land

Chorus:

Come on and take a free ride, (free ride) come on and take it by my side, come on and take a free ride!

Chorus

All over the country, I'm seeing the same, Nobody's winning, at this type of game, We gotta do better, it's time to begin, You know all the answers must come from within.

Chorus
