The most profoundly beautiful song about lost love that I've ever heard is "How Could I Let You Get Away?" by the Spinners. The mood, the lyrics, the soulful harmony, the quiet vibes in the background, the fabulously eloquent electric sitar solo in the middle...I cried my fool eyes out the first time that I heard it. It never received enough airplay.

I was at a girlfriend's house (she'd turned me on to the album), and I lied to her and said that I had to run outside and "check something in my car." I was ashamed that a song could touch me so deeply. I couldn't catch my breath. I should have told her the truth - but I was young.
When I came back inside, she asked me why my eyes were so red. I mumbled something about allergies...
